Explanation of Polishing Grades :A1,A2...

In the realm of injection mold manufacturing, polishing grades denote the evaluation of surface smoothness and brightness of molds. Different grades cater to varying client demands, ranging from the highest mirror finish to lower engineering polish grades, tailored to meet diverse aesthetic requirements of products.

In the context of injection mold manufacturing, polishing grades such as A1, A2, etc., categorize the level of surface finish and gloss achieved on mold surfaces. These grades are crucial as they define the visual appearance and functional characteristics of the final molded products.

  • A1 Grade: This is the highest polishing grade, often referred to as mirror finish. A1 polished molds exhibit a flawless, reflective surface with minimal to no visible defects. They are typically used for high-end applications where aesthetic perfection is paramount, such as consumer electronics or luxury goods.

  • A2 Grade: A2 polishing represents a slightly lower level of gloss compared to A1. It still achieves a very smooth surface with excellent light reflection properties. A2 polished molds are suitable for applications where a high aesthetic appeal is required but with slightly relaxed specifications compared to A1, such as automotive interiors or cosmetic packaging.

  • A3 Grade: A3 polishing denotes a good surface finish with visible polish lines that are not distracting to the overall appearance. It provides adequate gloss and smoothness for products where appearance is important but may not require the highest level of mirror-like reflectivity. A3 polished molds find application in Commodity appliances, medical devices, and general consumer goods.

  • Engineering Polish (EP): Beyond A3, there are engineering polish grades that cater to functional requirements rather than aesthetic considerations. These molds have a textured surface that is smooth to the touch but may exhibit minor imperfections or machining marks. EP molds are used in applications where function and durability are prioritized over visual appearance, such as industrial components or tooling.

Each polishing grade corresponds to specific manufacturing techniques and tools used to achieve the desired surface finish. Manufacturers like GuangChao meticulously select the appropriate polishing grade based on client requirements to ensure the molds meet both functional and aesthetic expectations effectively. This attention to detail and flexibility in polishing options allow them to cater to a diverse range of industries and product applications with precision and reliability.

Customer Case About Choose Suitable Steel for Mould

Recently, GuangChao Company encountered a client inquiry regarding mold dies for pipe fittings. Initially considering S136 stainless steel, the client was concerned about its significantly higher cost and financial constraints regarding their order. Emphasizing the critical need for high gloss on mold surfaces, they sought guidance from GuangChao Mould.

Following a thorough evaluation, GuangChao advised against using S136 for PVC pipe fitting molds due to cost-effectiveness concerns. Instead, considering the client want to reach A1 polishing , they recommended 2343ESR stainless steel from Germany as a more economical option than S136 that still meets the required gloss standards. Additionally, P20HH steel was suggested for its balance of cost and performance.

Throughout discussions, GuangChao showcased numerous polished samples and videos using P20 steel to assure the client. Ultimately, they agreed on using P20HH steel for both cavity and core parts of the mold, aligning with the client's dual requirements of gloss and cost-effectiveness.

  • S136 Stainless Steel: High hardness and corrosion resistance, suitable for molds requiring high gloss and surface smoothness, albeit at a higher cost.

  • 2343ESR Stainless Steel: German-made, moderately priced, widely used for molds of transparent parts, meeting certain gloss requirements.

  • P20 Steel: Common engineering mold steel with good machinability and cost efficiency, suitable for general engineering polish needs.

  • P20HH Steel: Improved version of P20 with enhanced hardness and polishing performance, offering higher cost-effectiveness for molds requiring higher gloss.
